I am a Programmer, Computer Technician, Writer, and a founding member of the Dorks & Distractions podcast team. Having worked in corporate sales for several years creating sales plays and scripts, I now apply those skills as a gamemaster for the D&D Tenmir Podcast, as well as on several other TTRPG projects.
For my day job, I work managing the IT needs for several large companies, providing support to users of all technical levels and maintaining enterprise-level infrastructure. I also maintain a robust home-server environment for continued training, much to the dismay of my partner and my electric bill!
Looking back, I should have known that I loved technology, but how was I supposed to know that most kids didn't take stuff apart to see how it worked? Instead, I started playing music with a local band and acting in a local club. I was passionate about playing Jazz, and ended up attending Anderson University as a multi-instrumentalist major. Unfortunately, a major injury to my right hand caused me to rethink my path. I discovered swing dancing, and started traveling around the country going to dance events. I discovered I was pretty good at sales, but it wasn't something I enjoyed, so during 2020 I decided to return to the IT world, and began working on new projects.
I work with clients all over the country to support their IT needs. Whether it's supplying computers, resolving everyday issues, or implementing new tools and applications, I provide every tier of support. I specialize in integrating REST APIs into turnkey solutions for client applications, and in deploying and maintaining linux server environments. I even do some development for the internal tools we use, though so far that is mostly a passion project.
To quote my partner, "I am a complete nerd and do nerdy stuff all the time". I am the Dungeon Master for two campaigns, both part of the "Dorks & Distractions" podcast team, and also handle much of the editing and marketing. It's a lot of work, but has been a fun learning experience so far. I also maintain a "HomeLab" which I use for everything from streaming media to running the smart home, and even hosting databases for some of my applications. It's a great way to learn and test out new projects, provided I make sure not to randomly stop the lights from working!
Starting in college I discovered vintage swing dancing, specifically "Lindy Hop", and soon developed a full-blown passion for social dancing! I now dance several forms of Swing and ballroom dances socially, and I currently compete in West Coast Swing (a modern evolution of classic swing dances). I can be found at dance events all around the country, and my next event will be in Charlotte, NC this February!
